It’s time for a State of the Herons.

Inter Miami entered this stretch of the season with championship expectations, but right now, things are heading in the wrong direction. Poor results, inconsistent performances and problems throughout the lineup have left us with far more questions than answers.

On this episode of Battered Herons, we’re taking a break from the normal match preview/postgame format and looking at the big picture surrounding Inter Miami.

How did we get here? What has gone wrong? Is this simply a bad stretch, or are there fundamental problems with the way this roster is constructed and playing?

We’ll examine the goalkeeper situation, defensive struggles, the lack of balance and verticality in midfield, an attack that hasn’t consistently produced enough, Guillermo Hoyos’ tactics and lineup decisions, and how the pieces on this roster actually fit together.

But most importantly: Can Inter Miami turn this around?

There is still plenty of talent on this team and plenty of season remaining. We’ll discuss what needs to change, whether those solutions are already on the roster, and what we need to see over the coming weeks to believe this team can still become the contender we expected.
