- The journal had been sitting in the rain for nine hours; cover was waterlogged and swollen while the inside pages were completely dry.
- Sentinel Peak tower rises sixty feet and is accessed by a single exterior staircase of nineteen steps with a four-foot-square platform at step eleven.
- On September 5 at approximately 9:15 p.m., Ruth heard eleven distinct footfalls ascending the staircase to the platform and found no one outside.
- On September 7 at around 9:00 p.m., she again observed eleven steps, photographed the platform which alone was dry while surrounding surfaces had a thin film of condensation.
- Ruth arrived at the tower on August 31, 2011, after requesting the rotation; the permanent warden Phil Garrett had left the station immaculate and had specifically noted he always latched the shed hasp hard.
