What they thought was wrong:
They thought they needed a new website, clearer messaging, stronger board engagement, and a better way to explain more than a decade of work in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
What everyone missed:
The public brand did not fully reflect the organization’s philosophy of partnership and local leadership. The mission said “do with, not for,” but the name, imagery, and story still centered the outside organization more than the Congolese people leading the work.
What changed:
The work shifted from website design to institutional alignment. We clarified the organization’s identity, renamed it Malembe Rise, rebuilt the mission, messaging, visual identity, and website, and centered Congolese teachers, parents, students, and leaders throughout the story.
Why it matters:
A rebrand is not complete when the logo changes. It is complete when the name, message, visuals, governance, programs, and public story all reflect the same belief. Sometimes a rebrand is not a cosmetic exercise. It is an institutional correction.
