Jupiter (Guru) was born to Sage Angira and Sraddha after they performed a penance to Agnideva, who granted them a son of matchless wisdom and oratorical skill. A golden-hued prodigy, he surpassed his father’s knowledge and was appointed Deva-guru (Preceptor of the Gods) by Indra. He established an independent ashram to disseminate learning and authored the Brihaspati Samhita on Dharma.
Life Lessons: Despite being a "Great Benefic," Jupiter’s life demonstrates that physical senses and pride can cloud even the most brilliant intellect. Episodes such as his wife Tara’s abduction and the birth of Bharadwaja illustrate that even divine entities must navigate the consequences of Karma.
Impact on Human Life: In Vedic astrology, Jupiter is the primary bestower of Vedic knowledge, fame, children, and wealth. He governs the zodiac signs Sagittarius and Pisces. His placement in the Ascendant is considered uniquely auspicious, as it is credited with the power to cancel 1.25 lakh (Sava-lakh) astrological defects. He remains the ultimate counselor, providing humans with the strength to endure pain through the pursuit of wisdom.
