The All-Star break gave us two things worth talking about. Yordan Álvarez earned his fourth American League All-Star selection and declined the Home Run Derby for the second straight year. And at the Futures Game in Philadelphia, Cam Smith went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI on the biggest prospect stage of the year. Xavier Neyens was there too. The Astros universe had a good week in Philadelphia.
The bigger picture heading into the second half: Houston is 27-14 since May 21st — the best record in the American League over that stretch. The team that bottomed out eleven games under .500 is a legitimate contender. The break comes at exactly the right time.
Across the affiliates, the minor league week was shortened but the stories weren't. The system is moving.
