    Raised in a very Jewish home in Charleston, South Carolina, Susan is the only child of immigrant parents, a Polish Jewish survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp, and a German Jewish escapee from East Germany. Through beautiful experiences and people Susan encountered from a young age, God wooed her into the Catholic Church. Susan lives her faith out loud in practical and winsome ways that draws others to Jesus and the Catholic Church. Her witness encourages us to step into opportunities to evangelize in our everyday lives.

    Susan and her husband, Bob, are parishioners of St. Catherine of Siena in Kennesaw, GA ,and own the Lazy Labrador Coffee House in downtown Kennesaw where they offer God’s love to all who enter.

    Gen Z, or those born between the late ‘90s and early 2010s, are the first generation born entirely in the digital age. Author Jacob Plante notes that the world his parents grew up in doesn’t exist anymore. Gen Z has only known a world of smartphones, social media, and instant communication. The internet became the center of communication, dominating how we learn by offering a staggering choice of vices. There are no absolutes anymore, and mainstream media has headlined religious affiliation tumbling for decades. Jacob could see the angst this culture caused, creating a deep desire in his peers for something meaningful. They see the shallowness of a life lived for pleasure and want something more; something sacred.

    Jacob notes that the internet, and even the COVID lockdown, created an environment which allowed his generation to explore faith as never before, saying Catholic morality made so much sense in a culture where everything was up for grabs. A recent Harvard University study shows a 6% increase in Gen Z Mass attendance from 2023-2024. Jacob’s article, “How The Latin Mass is Bringing Gen Z to Christ,” gives his insight into the sacred liturgy that is drawing Gen Z into the Catholic Church.

    Guest Biography: Born to a French Canadian dad and Cuban mom, Jacob Plante admits that although he grew up Catholic, he was never personally invested until COVID hit when he was in high school. With time on his hands and the internet at his fingertips, Jacob explored the culture wars and felt drawn to something deeper. Thankfully, the internet drew him toward God, where he found the big questions about life were already answered and Catholicism brought clarity. Jacob Plante is a Catholic writer, photographer, and college student pursuing his Bachelor's degree at Florida International University. He is an active member of several ministries and organizations, such as Students for Life at FIU, the FIU Catholic Campus Ministry, the Miamiensis Latin Mass Miami Community, and Hospitalité de Miami.
