The plot isn’t surprising. You can understand who is going to be the villain from the very beginning. Basically in this book, if you are evil from the first moment, you are going to be the villain, and if you acted well, then you are going to be the hero. It’s also surprising that somehow the author tries to justify a lot of gaslighting from different character. Basically, the protagonist spends her time apologising for stuffs she shouldn’t, trying to find justification that, with some common sense, shoudn’t exist. If you meet someone that literally lied to you about his identity, kept your sister in a dungeon (doesn’t matter if with positive intentions), insults you, cheats with someone else in front of you, and also blackmailed you, I’m sorry, but that’s a criminal, not a Prince Charming, and I don’t think someone should see this in a romantic prospective, And it’s also disappointing that the other characters try to make it look like a positive thing with the idea “wouldn’t you do the same?” The answer should be “No. Because of MORALS and logic, that seem completely absent in this book. She is called egoistic and selfish because she doesn’t include literally 4 people in her plans, when she is trying to save a whole nation. How is that supposed to be egoistic? Although I cringed a lot when the protagonist decided to kiss a stranger completely randomly, making her look extremely shallow, I have come now to the conclusion that, since apparently the goodness ships them together, she is just pitiful, because she apparently doesn’t even have control over her body, nor her dreams.
Too bad, there was potential.
