Sintesi dell'editore

From New York Times best-selling author Jennifer A. Nielsen comes a stunning thriller about a girl who must escape to freedom after the Berlin Wall divides her family between east and west. With the rise of the Berlin Wall, 12-year-old Gerta finds her family divided overnight. She, her mother, and her brother, Fritz, live on the eastern side, controlled by the Soviets. Her father and middle brother, who had gone west in search of work, cannot return home. Gerta knows it is dangerous to watch the wall, to think forbidden thoughts of freedom, yet she can't help herself.

She sees the East German soldiers with their guns trained on their own citizens; she, her family, her neighbors, and her friends are prisoners in their own city. But one day, while on her way to school, Gerta spots her father on a viewing platform on the western side, pantomiming a peculiar dance.

Then, when she receives a mysterious drawing, Gerta puts two and two together and concludes that her father wants Gerta and Fritz to tunnel beneath the wall, out of East Berlin. However, if they are caught, the consequences will be deadly. No one can be trusted. Will Gerta and her family find their way to freedom?

Wonderful historical fiction!

I loved both the compelling story which made me count the blessings of freedom in my life and the audible production. Hats off to the author and the audio book actor! I heartily recommend.

Great class book!

My students loved this book! They actually clapped when it was done. The performance was great. The story was suspenseful and they begged me to play it. I have read all of Jennifer Nielsen's books and they are all brilliant.

An enjoyable read

This is a well written story with a lot of detail in each character. The struggle of living in East Berlin is difficult at best. For a family that is divided, the difficulty is exponentially increased.

This story is told by a young girl who wants to reunite her family. She is frightened an describes the worries with a clear story. Escaping from East Berlin was a life or death activity, it wasn't something that could be attempted multiple times. There is a great level of maturity in this young girl, far beyond what one would expect from her age. The story is perfect for a family listen. The story even has a suspenseful timeline and a sense of urgency. I think this book could easily be finished across 2-3 days with a family sitting round the room.

Highly recommend.

A Powerful Story

This is a great story of a young girl who does amazing things, far beyond her own belief, in a nightmarish dystopian society that becomes more and more harsh. Like "Divergent," "Hunger Games," and "1984," it's a story of a private rebellion, until she has to make a stand for what she believes in.

The narrator has an excitement range, with a very convincing little girl voice, as well as appropriate voices for women and brothers. although it's silly that the police have German accents and no one else does!

Highly recommend

A gripping story which fully immerses the listener in the atmosphere of living in the former GDR. We listened to this with my children prior to a visit to Berlin and it much enhanced our visit.

NIGHT DIVIDED REVIEW

I think that a night divided is a great book for some people who are fascinated in berlin and the berlin wall or just who want to read about very big historical events. I think the message in the book is saying to people who are about 6-18 that you can do something huge to change other peoples lives and if you know something is wrong then do something to change that. I really loved this book and it's based on a real story apparently and I wander what life would it been like back then! I would recommend this book to anyone and please read it because it's a good story and it will interest you.

Fantastic

One of those books that really draws you in. When the characters took risks i was shouting at the recording that they would get caught. Well written and a good pace. Not too long
