Sommer 1934. Die Meeresbiologin Gloria Hollister sitzt an Bord eines Schiffes in der Nähe der Atlantikinsel Nonsuch, mit einer Hand presst sie einen Hörer ans Ohr, mit der anderen schreibt sie fieberhaft in ein Notizbuch. Durch winzige Bullaugen blickt er in die fremde Unterwasserwelt. Aufgeregt beschreibt er fantastische Kreaturen und wundersame Licht- und Farbeffekte.
